The Bernácer Prize 2008 is launched
The Bernácer Prize is awarded annually to European economists under the age of 40, who have made outstanding contributions in the fields of macroeconomics and finance.
Named in honour of Germán Bernácer (1883-1965), the first Spanish economist who made significant contributions to the development of macroeconomic research, the BERNÁCER PRIZE was established in 2001 to recognise the work of young economists from the European Union and to stimulate research on European macroeconomics and financial issues.
The prize includes a commemorative medallion, a diploma and a cash award of ?30,000
The winner will be required to attend the award ceremony and, if requested, give a short speech as part of the ceremony proceedings.
Eligibility
Nominees should be economists who meet the following criteria:
* Be under 40 at the end of 2008.
* Have the nationality of one of the countries of the European Union.
Candidates failing to meet the above stated entry requirements will not be considered.
Nomination Procedure
Nominations should be presented in English and include the following documents:
* Nominee´s name, mailing address, telephone, e-mail, present occupation, title and working institution.
* Curriculum Vitae and other supporting documents which provide relevant information of the nominee.
* Name, telephone, e-mail, present occupational title and institution of the person submitting the nomination.

Who May Nominate
Universities, research institutions and all members of the economics´ academic community may submit one or more nominations. Self nominations are accepted.
Length of Candidacy
Nominees will be considered for three years.
Nomination Deadline
Nominations for the Bernácer Prize must be received by December 31, 2008.
Selection process
Nominations will be assess by an independent Selection Committee composed by recognized members of the academic community. The award will be granted to the nominee obtaining the majority vote of the Selection Committee. Should two candidates receive the same number of votes, the Chairman of the Committee will cast the deciding vote.
