Portugal is formed by many ports and gates, hinge spaces, border channels and nodes, of local and global networks, which sustainability is assured by territories with borders are defined by sea routes. It is more so in Madeira, key to the Mediterranean, which territory extends to Venezuela, South Africa, Australia, Channels Islands, Lisbon and Algarve. This Congress theme tries to bring to scientific reflection the uprising and the development of these hinge spaces that end up being more relevant when there are globalization processes, when these spaces acquire diverse typologies and when nomadic institutions start to condition the sedentary. Abstracts are accepted in the following languages: Portuguese, English, Spanish or French. The papers can be presented in one of these four languages and parallel sessions will be organized by language to facilitate the participation of people who do not speak Portuguese.
