Memo to Sections of the Regional Science Association International
|
I am writing to you on behalf of the RSAI Council to seek your assistance in nominating suitable recipients for three annual Awards offered by the Association:
· The Hirotada Kohno Award for Outstanding Service to the RSAI
· The Peter Nijkamp RSAI Research Encouragement Award for an Early Career Scholar from a Developing Country
· The RSAI Dissertation Award
The Hirotada Kohno Award is made to an RSAI member for long and outstanding service to the development and organization of Regional Science and to the development and management of RSAI at the International and/or Supra-Regional, including an outstanding contribution to the development of Regional Science at the Local Section level.
The Peter Nijkamp RSAI Research Encouragement Award is made to an RSAI member early career researcher from the developing world – for ‘outstanding potential’, based on an assessment of a submitted research paper and CV.
The RSAI Dissertation Award is made to the best doctoral-level scholarship in a submitted dissertation that focuses on a regional science topic and represents a substantial contribution to research. The table below explains the procedure for nominating candidates for the three Awards. The closing date for each Award in 2012 is 15 June 2012.
On behalf of the Council, I ask you to consider whether one or more of your members might be a suitable candidate for one of these Awards. If so, I invite you to arrange for a nomination (with the relevant materials) to be made by 15 June 2012.

Hirotada Kohno Award
|
A nomination of a candidate for consideration for the Award must be made in writing by the President and/or Secretary and/or Executive Officer of an official body within RSAI. The nomination must include a detailed statement of the nature of the service contribution a candidate has made to RSAI, and should be sent by 15 June 2012 to Professor Paul Dalziel at paul.dalziel@lincoln.ac.nz.

Peter Nijkamp Award
|
The Award is open to early career researchers, defined as person in full time employment in either a teaching or a research position in a university or research institution in a developing nation in which there is a member section of RSAI, and who has held their doctoral qualification for no more than seven (7) years as at the 31 December in the year in which they apply for the Award.
The nominee must provide a full curriculum vitae and a written formal research paper on a topic in Regional Science, formatted in accordance with the requirements for submitting a paper Papers in Regional Science. These materials should be sent by 5 June 2012 to Professor Paul Dalziel at paul.dalziel@lincoln.ac.nz.

n a CD or DVD and a letter of nomination from the research supervisor should follow by regular mail, to be received no later than 1 July, 2012. Send all submissions to:
