RSAI Martin Beckmann Award
|
Recognizes a regional science scholar who has demonstrated innovation and excellence in Regional Science research through the publication of a paper of outstanding merit in Papers in Regional Science.

RSAI Peter Nijkamp Research Encouragement Award
|
Recognizes the outstanding potential of an early mid-career researcher from a nation in the developing world and in which there is a formal Section of RSAI, and seeks to encourage the development of the early career scholar as a high quality researcher in the field of Regional Science and as a participant in the international Regional Science community.

- Up to a limit of 750 € for travel to the Supra-Regional (NARSC, ERSA, PRSCO) meeting or the RSAI World Congress at which the paper will be presented.
|
Restricted to persons in full time employment in either a teaching or a research position in a university or research institution in a developing nation in which there is a member section of RSAI, and who has held their doctoral qualification for no more than ten (10) years as at the 31 December in the year in which they apply for the Award.
An applicant must be an RSAI section member and have been living in that or another developing nation continuously for at least the three year period from the 31 December of the year in which the application for the Award is made.

RSAI Dissertation Award
|
Awards the Best Doctoral Dissertation in Regional Science.
|

- Cash award of 750 Euros
|
Eligibility:
- A dissertation completed in any Ph.D. program in any country is eligible,
- A dissertation written in English,
- A dissertation successfully defended, with official graduation date between July 1st 2015 and June 30th 2016,
- A dissertation on a single or multiple general regional science topics. The Selection Committee reserves the right to determine whether a dissertation is relevant to the field of regional science.

RSAI Fellows
|
RSAI fellows are distinguished scholars with a proven and recognized research record in the field of regional science during a considerable part of their scientific career.

Members of the RSAI are selected based on scholarship, scientific impact and service after a careful nomination and selection procedure, based on a broad consultation of the RSAI membership.

RSAI Founder's Medal
|
Recognize lifetime contributions to the field of Regional Science and to the Association.
|
- Every four (4) years
- Medal
- Award will be presented at the RSAI World Congress
|
The recipient should:
- be a senior scholar who has contributed in an important way to the field of Regional Science in a scholarly sense;
- have been active in the RSAI for a sustained period, but not necessarily active at the time of the award; also, the award is not given posthumously;
- be a person with whom many members can identify; his/her contributions could be a major work in one area or many works in several areas;

The nominations should be sent to the RSAI Selection Committee.
The next Founder’s Medal will be awarded in 2020.

RSAI Jean Paelinck Award
|
The Jean Paelinck Award for Distinguished Sustained Scholarship in Regional Science Methods recognizes and honors the truly outstanding scholarly achievement of a senior and internationally recognized regional scientist in the field of Regional Science Methods. Such an achievement should be recognized from an early stage in a recipient’s academic career and be sustained throughout the duration of their career.

|
May only be awarded to a regional scientist who has already been recognized for his/her scholarly excellence.
Normally the recipient of the award would be nearing retirement or be formally retired, but still be active as a contributor to scholarship in Regional Science.

RSAI Stan Czamanski Prize
|
Award the author of the best Ph.D. dissertation proposal judged to exemplify the philosophy and approach of Professor Czamanski.
|

- US$1,000 prize is awarded to the student and a plaque to the student’s advisor.

To be eligible, the dissertation proposal must have been defended and approved during the past 12 months.

RSAI Young Researchers Prize
|
Aims to showcase the research of young scholars in regional science through paper presentation and in-depth discussion organized at the Regional Science Association World Congress.

PRSCO Best Paper by Young Regional Scientist
|
The Award is aimed at encouraging young regional scientists within the Asia-Pacific region to participate in research within the PRSCO community and to achieve research excellence.

The 2016 Award will be made for the best submission to the PRSCO Best Paper competition by a young regional scientist, under the age of 33 (on July 1, 2017), who is from a PRSCO-relevant part of the world.

ERSA Epainos Award for Young Scientists
|
The prestigeous Epainos Award for young scientists is awarded every year to the best paper presented at the ERSA congress by a young researcher.

- The prize money is € 600 for first prize and € 300 for second prize.
|
The sessions are primarily targeted to Masters and PhD students, and young scholars of comparable age, and meet the following criteria:
- All co-authors must be less than 33 years old on 1 September congress year;
- None of the co-authors holds a senior position.
- All papers accepted for the Epainos Award competition will be presented in Young Scientists Sessions specially marked as Epainos Session.

EIB – ERSA Prize
|
The EIB – European Prize in Regional Science is created to recognize outstanding regional scientists at the European level and to increase the image of ERSA in the scientific world. The EIB – European Prize in Regional Science can be awarded each year to a distinguished European regional scientist.

- Annual
- ERSA gives the award (diploma) based on the recommendation of an independent jury. The independence of the jury is essential to help assure that the jury is objective and that it works to serve the best interests of regional science.
|
The EIB-ERSA Prize in Regional Science recognizes the outstanding contributions of scholars to the advancement in regional science and in related spatial area studies.
|
A consultation of regional scientists, from all over the world, is made under the authority of the President of the jury. During the consultation regional scientists are asked to propose the name of a living European regional scientist, who has made an outstanding contribution to the advancement of regional science.
The names proposed during the consultation are sent to the President. Using an ‘approval voting’ procedure, the jury chooses the laureate from the candidates proposed during the consultation. The President cannot propose names. In the case of a tie, the President has the casting vote.

NARSC Graduate Student Paper Competition
|
Is held annually in conjunction with the North American Meetings of the Regional Science Association International (RSAI). This contest encourages the participation of young scholars by providing a forum for paper presentation and discussion by senior scholars in the field of regional science. Beginning in 2010, two separate competitions have been held for graduate student papers:

- Annual
- The winners will be announced during the awards luncheon at the NARSC Conference.
- All authors who are selected as finalists will receive a cash prize. In-kind prizes may also be awarded.
- The prize-winning papers will also be considered for publication in Papers in Regional Science. Because the papers will be subject to standard review procedures, publication is not guaranteed.

1) Graduate-Student-Author Paper Competition: Eligibility for the award is limited to current Masters and PhD students, and/or recent graduates who completed their degrees after August 1, 2015.
2) Graduate-Student-Led Paper Competition: Eligibility for the award requires that the paper’s “primary author” be a current Masters or PhD student, or a recent graduate who completed his/her degree after August 1st, 2015

NARSC The Benjamin H. Stevens Graduate Fellowship in Regional Science
|
Was established in 1998 in memory of Dr. Benjamin H. Stevens (1929-1997), an intellectual leader whose selfless devotion to graduate students as teacher, advisor, mentor and friend continues to have a profound impact on the field of Regional Science.
|
- Annual
- The Fellowship consists of a stipend in the amount of $30,000 (U.S.), paid over a twelve-month period.
|
Eligible students should have completed all degree requirements except for their dissertation by the time the Fellowship commences. A requirement of the Fellowship is that the recipient has no duties other than dissertation research during the Fellowship, although the recipient may hold other fellowships concurrently. Applications from students working in any area or any Ph.D. program are welcome as long as their dissertation research addresses a research question in Regional Science.

NARSC The William Alonso Memorial Prize for Innovative Work in Regional Science
|
Recognize the recent innovative research contribution of Regional Science scholars in the spirit of Dr. William Alonso
|
|
Although occasionally awarded to an article, the Alonso Prize is primarily a book prize. A book’s key idea might have been presented first in a journal article, such as Alonso’s “A Theory of the Urban Land Market,” Papers of the Regional Science Association, 1960, but its fuller development and synthesis with other work can make the book innovative and eligible for the Prize.
