16º Congresso Anual da APDR – Spaces of Hinge, border channels and nodes – Madeira 5-10 July 2010
Spaces of Hinge, border channels and nodes
Portugal is formed by many ports and gates, hinge spaces, border channels and nodes, of local and global networks, which sustainability is assured by territories with borders defined by sea routes. It is more so in Madeira, key to the Mediterranean, which territory extends to Venezuela, South Africa, Australia, Channels Islands, Lisbon and Algarve. This Congress theme try´s to bring to scientific reflection the calling and the development of these hinge spaces that end up being more relevant when there are globalization processes, when these spaces acquire diverse typologies and when nomadic institutions start to condition the sedentary.
Congresses and workshops promoted by APDR have registered a growing number of participants. The Congress of Madeira has the dream to move from 200 to 500 participants. So we bet in the coming six international speakers for the plenary sessions and six teachers for six classes of Regional Science. So we choose one of the most beautiful places of Portugal. So we admit sessions in English, French and Spanish. Therefore, we continue to bet on study visits to address and discuss the development of sites visited and the people who live there.
