Apreciadas/os asociadas/os y simpatizantes de la AECR,

Permitidme un mensaje para felicitaros las fiestas y transmitiros nuestros mejores deseos para el nuevo año, en el que aprovecho para hacer una breve recapitulación de la actividad de nuestra asociación en 2025 y para transmitiros nuestros objetivos para 2026.

Creo que la Ciencia Regional, en general, y, seguramente por ello, la Asociación Española de Ciencia Regional (AECR) en particular, están viviendo un buen momento. Nuestra revista, Investigaciones Regionales – Journal of Regional Science (https://investigacionesregionales.org/es/) avanza lenta pero segura en los índices de impacto internacionales. No damos grandes saltos, pero vamos escalando poco a poco y vamos asegurando posiciones. En un mundo editorial convulso creo que podemos estar muy orgullosos de haber sido capaces de mantener nuestra revista abierta, sin coste para los autores y con una absoluta independencia que garantiza su calidad científica. Por su parte, el blog “La Riqueza de las Regiones” (https://aecr.org/es/la-riqueza-de-las-regiones/), nuestro instrumento de transferencia y divulgación, sigue aumentando su capacidad de difusión y publica entradas cada vez más interesantes y valiosas. Por último, la edición en Pamplona de nuestro congreso, la 49 Reunión de Estudios Regionales (https://aecr.org/es/congresos/anual/) ha sido un éxito de participación y de calidad de las sesiones. En el marco de una excelente organización disfrutamos de un contexto ideal para discutir nuestros trabajos y pudimos asistir a conferencias plenarias y mesas redondas excelentes.

Pero en estas fechas tenemos ya nuestra mirada totalmente puesta en los objetivos del año próximo. El 2026 es un año muy especial para la AECR dado que nuestro congreso cumplirá 50 años. Para celebrarlo acudiremos de nuevo a la ciudad que albergó la primera Reunión de Estudios Regionales: Barcelona. Estamos preparando un congreso muy especial donde podamos sentirnos orgullosos del trabajo hecho en estos 50 años, pero donde fundamentalmente reflexionemos sobre el futuro de la Ciencia Regional. Os invitamos a participar en esta edición especial de nuestra Reunión de la que en breve os daremos información precisa y lanzaremos el call for papers. Además de este congreso especial, en 2026 trataremos de recuperar nuestro Seminario para Jóvenes Investigadores, nuestra propuesta para apoyar investigadores que están iniciando su carrera en temas vinculados a la Ciencia Regional. Recordad que planteamos que estos Seminarios sean totalmente gratuitos, para facilitar y atraer la participación de todos los jóvenes que puedan constituir pronto el relevo generacional de la AECR. Finalmente, os recordamos que nuestra misión es impulsar y apoyar los estudios en temas regionales y urbanos. Por ello, contad con nosotros, con la estructura cada vez más fuerte de la AECR, para ayudaros en todas las iniciativas que en este sentido podáis tener.

Sin más, aprovecho para desearos salud y felicidad para el 2026 en el que podamos encontrarnos y celebrar juntos los 50 años de nuestra Reunión de Estudios Regionales.

Dear members and supporters of the Spanish Association of Regional Science,

Please allow me to send you a message to wish you happy holidays and extend our best wishes for the new year. I would also like to take this opportunity to briefly recap our association’s activities in 2025 and to share our objectives for 2026.

I believe that Regional Science, in general, and, probably for this reason, the Spanish Association of Regional Science in particular, is currently thriving. Our journal, Investigaciones Regionales – Journal of Regional Science (https://investigacionesregionales.org/es/), is making slow but steady progress in international impact rankings. We are not making great leaps, but we are gradually climbing and securing our position. In a turbulent publishing world, I believe we can be very proud of having been able to keep our journal open, free of charge for authors, and with the absolute independence that guarantees its scientific quality. Meanwhile, the blog “La Riqueza de las Regiones” (https://aecr.org/es/la-riqueza-de-las-regiones/), our tool for knowledge transfer and dissemination, continues to expand its reach and publishes increasingly interesting and valuable posts. Finally, the Pamplona edition of our congress, the 49th Meeting of Regional Studies (https://aecr.org/es/congresos/anual/), was a resounding success in terms of both participation and the quality of the sessions. Thanks to excellent organization, we enjoyed an ideal setting for discussing our work and were able to attend outstanding plenary lectures and roundtables.

But currently, our focus is already entirely on next year’s objectives. 2026 is a very special year for the AECR, as our congress will celebrate its 50th anniversary. To mark this occasion, we will return to the city that hosted the first Meeting of Regional Studies: Barcelona. We are preparing a very special congress where we can take pride in the work done over these 50 years, but above all, where we will reflect on the future of Regional Science. We invite you to participate in this special edition of our Meeting, about which we will soon provide you with detailed information and launch the call for papers. In addition to this special congress, in 2026 we will try to revive our Seminar for Young Researchers, our initiative to support researchers who are beginning their careers in areas related to Regional Science. Remember that we propose that these seminars be completely free of charge, to facilitate and attract the participation of all young people who may soon form the next generation of the AECR. Finally, we remind you that our mission is to promote and support studies on regional and urban issues. Therefore, count on us, with the increasingly strong structure of the AECR, to help you with any initiatives you may have in this regard.

Finally, I take this opportunity to wish you health and happiness in 2026, when we can meet again and celebrate together the 50th anniversary of our Regional Studies Meeting.
