| Policy – An important element of the Congress |
|
|
Once again the ERSA Congress promises to be a great resource and opportunity for regional, national, and European policy makers. There are several special sessions with a strong policy focus. There will be designated Policy Series Sessions throughout the Congress at which policy discussants will provide their perspectives on the scientific work. This will foster deeper engagement between academics and policy-making colleagues. In addition, a Policy Roundtable will take place on Thursday 30 August (4.30pm) to present and discuss techniques for improving programme evaluations. There will be contributors from the European Commission, OECD, and national departments and agencies in Europe. More information to be posted on the congress website shortly. |

| REGION welcomes new editors |
After Declan Jordan, who joined the REGION editorial team earlier this year, we are now very happy to welcome yet two new members in the REGION team: Francisco Rowe and Özge Öner. Özge brings in a strong profile with a broad scope including research themes ranging from retail and leisure, migration and integration, to agglomeration economies. Francisco has taken over the editorship of the Resources Section from Julia Koschinsky, who has moved on to exiting new projects. We would like to thank Julia for her invaluable contribution in the start-up and early development of REGION.

We are pleased to announce the publication of a Special issue on the performance of regional policies in Europe. The special issue “La performance des politiques régionales en Europe” of the RERU – Revue d’économie régionale et urbaine whose guest editors are Sébastien Bourdin and Elena Ragazzi, is devoted to the topic of public policy evaluation. It discusses, starting from lessons deriving from a survey of research works, quantitative and qualitative approaches adopted in the field of regional sciences, and it opens to the challenges for future research.

Borders and Regional Development

| The GfR conference is jointly organised with the Hungarian, Polish, and Slovak Sections of ERSA.
The Sections invite contributions dealing with the topic of the conference in a wide sense and with related topics.
Motivation:
The role and function of borders has changed dramatically in Europe in the recent decades. The areas represented by the sections jointly organizing this conference were particularly affected by these changes. With Brexit approaching, we can expect such transformation to continue.
